Training
Training is another important part of Dark Galaxy. Next to the basic unit there are Soldiers and Scientists.
Worker
The basic units on your planet are workers. They are needed to build buildings, produce space ships and train other units. Workers do not need to be trained, their number increases by the population growth rate. A single outpost sets the population growth rate to 1.0% of your total population. You can push your population growth higher by offering your workers fun in a Leisure Centre or medical care in a Hospital. Both buildings give an additional 0.5% to the population growth rate so that you can reach a 2.0% maximum. The population growth rate is planet specific, building the Leisure Centre or Hospital on a planet will only increase the growth rate on that planet. (Building list)
The amount of workers is capped by the planet housing. Building the Colony and Metropolis will increase the housing on the planet. Living Quarters and Habitats also increase the housing on planets in smaller increments. (Building list) Your population will only increase by the growth rate if there is available housing space left.
A major change in the new code is that workers no longer need food to survive or grow. A planet with +0 Food income will not affect the workers on the planet; neither the total population nor the growth rate will decrease. However you may not demolish food producing buildings if your food output is zero.
Every 1000 colonists you have eat 2 food per turn, i.e. each colonist eats 0.002 food per turn (assuming there is food to eat).
Soldier
Soldiers are used to fight other units, either to invade rival players planets or to defend your own planets. To attack, soldiers are dropped by an Invasion Ship, (Ship List) they then kill the population of the attacked planet. If you have enough soldiers to kill all the planets inhabitants, the planet will be conquered and belong to you. Once built, the soldier does not require food to stay alive.
Soldiers used to defend invasions need to be stationary on the attacked planet. Defending soldiers are 50% more efficient than attacking soldiers, effectively this means the attacker needs three soldiers to kill two defending soldiers.
To train soldiers, you first need to build Army Barracks. (Building list)This is the place to drill your workers into soldiers. The Army Barracks provides endless housing for soldiers.
One soldier costs:
1
= 12
+ 8
+ 20
and requires 10 idle
to train during 4 ![]()
You can train as many soldiers at the same time as you want to, resources and workers allowing.
While invading, soldiers follow a cruel but realistic tactic: They first kill all defending soldiers, then the enemy's scientists and finally they slay the civil population (worker). To successfully invade a planet you need one more soldier then is needed to exterminate the population.
| Unit | Hitpoints | Attack |
|---|---|---|
| Worker | 2 | |
| Scientist | 1 | |
| Soldier | 30 | 20 |
Scientist
Scientists are needed to run research which gives you access to premium advanced technologies that are essential for success. These technologies include advanced resource output structures, better fleet technologies and also serves to increase your Planet Limit. Once built, the scientist does not require food to stay alive.
To train scientists, you first need to build a Research Lab. (Building list) The Reseach lab provides endless housing for scientists.
One scientist costs:
1
= 5
+ 20
+ 25
and requires 20 idle
to train during 8 ![]()
You can train as many scientists at the same time as you want to, resources and workers allowing.
Each scientist creates 1 research point per turn, which are accumulated. Research points are needed to start different researches. Read more on research page.
How to train
To train soldiers or scientist, you first need to build up the required structures (Building|Building list). Once you've done this, access the "training page" of your planet.
On the lower left is a block called “Completed Training”. This displays every unit that is already trained on this planet such as your current population.

On the right you see an empty block called “Training Queue”. This displays all the trainings that are being done at this moment such as queued trainings.

Wanna research? Wanna invade? So lets go for it now. Look at the block below, called “Units available to train”. This is a list of units you can choose from. They are only listed if the required buildings are already existing on this planet. For now, select "scientists", choose the number you want to train of them and click the “build structure” button. If there are not enough resources or worker to train this amount of scientists/soldiers, you'll automatically train as much as your stats allow you.
