Building up planets

Setting looped queues saves a lot of time in the long run
Attacking
It is often possible to find planets which have such large stocks that any soldiers they cost you can be instantly paid for from the stocks. These make good targets as they only cost you time.
Defending
A good offence is the best defence

"An alliance with the strong is never to be trusted"
Leading a team/attack
when mailing launch orders it is best to give a "wait queue", eg:
Tick 100 launch
Tick 99 wait 1
Tick 98 wait 2
Tick 97 wait 3
...
remember to put the queue in the correct order, it is a common mistake to not do so.
Research
Don't build much more than 1000 scientists.
