The Ships in Dark Galaxy
There are different types of ships in Dark Galaxy. They have different purposes and are grouped to 3 ship classes. Depending on their ship class, their Travel Times do vary.
Specialist ships
Outpost Ship
The Outpost Ship is more a flying building then a real ship. You can use this ship to colonise an empty planet. As soon as you colonise, the ship lands, and becomes the outpost you see in the finished buildings list on your planet building page. When you deploy the outpost ship, your new planet gets these resources to start:
| 6,000 | |
| 4,000 | |
| 2,000 | |
| 5,000 | |
The Outpost ship does not require research to be built. You only need a Ship Yard for the Outpost Ship.
The Outpost Ship is a very weak ship, and can be taken down by a relatively small group of bombers. Try to stay safe!
Invasion Ship
The Invasion Ship has only one very specific use: invading hostile planets.
It has very poor armour and fleet drive, and with all the expensive soldiers in the fleet it's very important that you provide enough fleet cover for this ship.
Trade Ships
The trade ships have changed a bit in the new code. Each one has now got separate capacity for each resource.
This means that a freighter can transport 120,000 metal AND 80,000 mineral AND 40,000 food etc.
Freighter
The Freighter is the smallest of the cargo ships, and the only one that doesn't require research.
It has relatively poor armour and is very slow, so try to research better ships as soon as you can.
The freighter can carry:
| 120,000 | |
| 80,000 | |
| 40,000 | |
| 40,000 | |
| 40,000 | |
| 40,000 | |
| 40,000 | |
Merchant
The Merchant is the bigger brother of the Freighter. Slightly faster and better armoured, but still not fantastic.
Capacity:
| 240,000 | |
| 160,000 | |
| 80,000 | |
| 80,000 | |
| 80,000 | |
| 80,000 | |
| 80,000 | |
Trader
The Trader is the transport ship of choice for many rulers. Fastest ship drive, pretty good armour and big cargo space make this ship into a very good and useful workhorse of your empire.
Capacity:
| 480,000 | |
| 320,000 | |
| 160,000 | |
| 160,000 | |
| 160,000 | |
| 160,000 | |
| 160,000 | |
Hulk
The Hulk is simply huge. Aside from the tremendous cargo space it has massive armour and the fastest ship drive.
Capacity:
| 960,000 | |
| 640,000 | |
| 320,000 | |
| 320,000 | |
| 320,000 | |
| 320,000 | |
| 320,000 | |

Bomber
A small craft made for hunting medium sized ships.
- Strengths: Destroyer, Frigate

Frigate
Medium ship with precision weapons, allowing it to hit the fast-moving fighter, as well as snipe out crucial systems on the Destroyer.
It can be somewhat of a sitting duck against some ships though.
- Strengths: Fighter, Destroyer
- Weaknesses: Bomber, Battleship
Destroyer
Medium-heavy ship specifically designed to deal with capital ships. Can blast through any armour with it's heavy guns.
- Strengths: Battleship, Cruiser

Capital ship with lots and lots of guns to fight off swarms of attackers.

The only ship capable of dealing with the battleship is the Destroyer with it's huge main cannon.
- Strengths: Cruiser, Fighter, Frigate
- Weaknesses: Destroyer
